NOVEMBER CECO MEETING & SEMINAR --
"OWNERSHIP TRANSFER FOR CONSULTING ENGINEERS"

CECO's next regular General Membership Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 18, 1999, at the Oklahoma Engineering Center in Oklahoma City. The luncheon meeting will begin at 11:45am, and will be followed by a special Business Practice Seminar at 1:00pm. The CECO Board of Directors will meet earlier in the day, beginning at 9:00am.

The seminar, Ownership Transfer Techniques That Work, will address core issues such as, Corporate Survival Issues, Case Studies, Setting Personal Goals, Valuation of the Corporation, Techniques for Transfer, Professional Liability Implications, Finding and Training Successors, and Implementation of Board of Directors

If you are like most firm owners, you have some ideas about how to transfer ownership and management of your firm, but you do not have a plan in place. Simply stating your vision for the future in no way ensures that your objectives will be realized. YOU MUST HAVE A FORMAL PLAN. At the Ownership Transfer seminar you will learn everything you need to know about transferring ownership and management smoothly and profitably to the people who will carry it on. You will leave this seminar with the tools you need to ensure a secure future for your business and your employees.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Company owners, chief financial and financial officers, future owners/managers,and other key members of the firm.

Mark your calendar today. Registration Information will be sent soon.

ACEC BEGINS ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION OF LAST WORD, OTHER PUBLICATIONS

In a continuing effort to serve you better, ACEC's "The Last Word" will now be delivered to you via e-mail.

CECO pioneered electronic delivery of newsletters, meeting notices and other important/time sensitive information to members. Taking our lead, ACEC is moving toward electronic distribution of news and information that is important to your business so that it will reach those in your firm who are most affected more quickly than ever.

ACEC's version will be different that what you are accustomed to from CECO. In our version (the one you're reading now), we send the newsletter as e-mail "text". You open the e-mail, and there's the newsletter. ACEC will be sending you a "link" rather than text. When you receive it, you will click on the "link", and your web browsers (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) will load and take you to the document, which is embedded in the ACEC Web Site.

Also in the "Last Word" e-mail will be links to the inserts that usually accompany a mailed Last Word, such as the "Bookshop News" and other fliers. These items will download to your computer, and will open with a word processing program (MS Word, etc.)

Below are the links to the first e-mail Last Word and associated documents.

http://www.acec.org/happen/lw092499.htm (Last Word)
http://www.acec.org/happen/bsnsep99.doc (Bookshop News)
http://www.acec.org/happen/strike-3.doc (Strike 3 flyer)

While ACEC establishes this new feature, subscribers will continue to receive the newsletter in the mail. We would expect that the "snail mail" versions will be phased out over time.

At present, ACEC is only sending the e-mail version of the Last Word to the main e-mail address listed for the firm. This is because ACEC's database only has the information which is supplied for the ACEC Directory. Since many firms have "personal" e-mail accounts for their principals and employees, ACEC is giving firms the ability to subscribe additional individuals from your firm to the Last Word. To subscribe others, go to http://www.acec.org/members/member/lastword.htm and follow the instructions.

In the future, ACEC will be adding additional communication items that will be delivered via e-mail, especially in the Government Affairs arena. Legislative Updates and Legislative Alerts which are very "time sensitive", will be sent via e-mail. Plans are also to being made to "target" specific ACEC members on critical issues, rather than "bulk" alerts to all members.

CECO and ACEC's goal is to provide you with timely, cutting-edge information to enhance your business. Electronic delivery of information is the fastest possible means of getting this information into your hands.

NEW "INSIDER REPORT" ON WASHINGTON FROM ACEC

ACEC has added a new weekly feature to its ever-expanding web site. The "Washington Report" (www.acec.org/programs/washreport.htm) provides timely information about important advocacy issues such as FAA Reauthorization, Superfund/Brownfield Reauthorization, etc., and is a supplement to information provided in the weekly "Last Word."

As a preview, the following are the categories that will be updated weekly to provide you the latest information:

* Dateline Washington: Current stories on key legislative activities.
* Decision 2000: Articles about the 2000 elections.
* Web Works: New ACEC documents on the Webpage.
* Legislative Alerts: ACEC's grassroots alerts allowing ACEC members instantaneous grassroots appeals to Members of Congress on a real-time basis.
* Upcoming Events: Information about upcoming GA-related events.

Of particular interest in the first issue are two ACEC targeted Legislative Alerts that were distributed over the past few days on the FAA Reauthorization and Superfund/Brownfield legislation. You are urged to take a minute to review these alerts and respond if one of your members of Congress is listed on the distribution list.

The "Washington Report" will be posted each Thursday on the ACEC web site, so make it one of your regular stops when cruising the web. www.acec.org/programs/washreport.htm
